What Meet offers

Google Meet's built-in options

Portrait touch-up has two levels. Google describes Subtle as very light complexion smoothing, under-eye lightening and eye whitening, and Smooth as slightly more of the same.

Studio makeup adds 12 makeup looks and has been rolling out since October 2025. Studio look fixes problems caused by low light or a low-quality webcam, and Studio lighting simulates studio lights.

The limit is the plan. Portrait touch-up and makeup need one of the eligible Workspace editions, Google One, or Workspace Individual. Studio look and Studio lighting need an eligible Workspace or Google AI plan. A free personal Google account is not on either list.

Questions

Common questions

Does Google Meet have a beauty filter?

Yes, on eligible plans. It is called "Portrait touch-up" and has two levels: Subtle and Smooth. Both smooth the complexion, lighten the under-eye area and whiten the eyes. Meet also has "Studio makeup" looks. Free personal Google accounts are not on the list of eligible plans.

How do I turn on portrait touch-up in Google Meet?

In a meeting, open the video settings, choose "Backgrounds and effects", then the "Appearance" tab, and pick Portrait touch-up.

Why don't I see portrait touch-up in Google Meet?

Portrait touch-up is limited to certain plans: Google Workspace Business Standard and Plus, the Enterprise editions, Education Plus, the Teaching and Learning Upgrade, Google One and Google Workspace Individual. It also needs a supported browser with graphics acceleration turned on. ClaraCam works with any Google account because the touch-up happens before the video reaches Meet.

Do I need a Chrome extension for a beauty filter in Google Meet?

No. An extension works only inside the browser it is installed in, and has to be granted access to the Meet page. ClaraCam is a camera on your computer: choose it in Meet's camera list and it also works in Zoom, Teams and every other video app.

Does ClaraCam work with Google Meet in Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox?

Yes. Any browser that lets you choose a camera can use ClaraCam. Select "ClaraCam" in Meet's video settings. If it is not listed, reload the tab.

What is the difference between studio look and studio lighting in Meet?

Studio look uses AI to fix problems caused by low light or a low-quality webcam, and Google processes it in the cloud. Studio lighting simulates studio lights and needs a recent processor, such as an Apple M1 or Intel Core i5-1235U or better. Both require an eligible Workspace or Google AI plan.

Is my video uploaded when I use ClaraCam in Google Meet?

No. ClaraCam processes every frame on your own computer. Your video is never uploaded to ClaraCam.
